Nothing is one size fits all, and getting healthy is no different. Tracking macros is just one of many ways to improve your health, lose body fat, or put on muscle.
If you currently suffer from an eating disorder, or have a history of disordered eating, I do not recommend tracking macros. Tracking macros is a very tedious process and can get overwhelming at times. That paired with an unhealthy motivation to track is usually not going to be helpful in the ways you need.
Furthermore, although all registered dietitians have some counseling knowledge when it comes to eating disorders, it’s important to look for someone who specializes in eating disorders. Don’t just look for someone who has had experience with eating disorders themselves. It’s so important to get professional help in that area. Look for certifications and established programs.
I also don’t recommend tracking macros for anyone under 18. While I do believe people can benefit from learning about proteins, carbs, and fats early in life, I do not feel it is necessary for children and teens to track all of their intakes specifically in this way. Small changes can be enough to make a big impact.
Remember, if you decide to track, make it meaningful.
