Collagen is one of the most common supplements my clients ask about.
For this supplement, consider your reasoning for taking it. First, collagen is not a complete protein (it’s lacking tryptophan). If your diet includes multiple other protein sources, collagen can absolutely be added as a supplemental protein. However, if your diet is lacking in protein, I recommend a whey, casein, or soy protein instead to make sure you are getting all 9 EAAs.
On the other hand, there are studies that link collagen supplementation to things like joint health and skin elasticity. If you are curious about those effects, and you have already addressed things like water intake and nutrient deficiencies, then collagen may be beneficial.
