Not all greens powders are the same. It’s important to pay attention to brand and ingredients. They all have different ratios of fruit and vegetable blends, digestive enzymes, and probiotics, and not everyone needs all of that. For someone with gut issues but unsure of the root cause, greens powders could actually make things worse.
If you are looking for an easy way to get more micros in, opt for added vitamins in other food items, like fortified milk and fruit juice, or fortified cereal and bread.
Smoothies are also very helpful for getting micros in.
Here’s my current (almost) daily smoothie:
Frozen mixed berries
Banana
Almond milk
Baby spinach
Black beans
Protein powder
Chia seeds
Brazil nuts
Dried apricots
(sometimes Greek yogurt or silken tofu)
*I have a Vitamix so those harder items (like nuts) get completely broken down and blended.
