Net carbs = (total carbohydrates) – (fiber and sugar alcohols)
In other words, “total carbs” are going to count all carbs, fiber and artificial sweeteners found in food. While tracking macros, I recommend always tracking total carbs.
(In some cases, net carbs can be beneficial, like for adjusting insulin doses based on carbs that do or do not spike blood sugar. Talk with an RD or endocrinologist about these specifics.)
